. | Anne writes -
"I have a feeling we were 1st years at Heasandford. We were all in the
same form (Is). I think the group is outside one of
the many Liverpool Cathederals - as the song goes 'If you want a
cathederal we've got one to spare. In our Liverpool home.' I can remember we were under strict instructions from Miss Sharples 'to be at our best' uniform-wise. As budding teenagers we were experimenting with clothing and in the photograph we have coats on (perhaps winter) to cover up our 'horrid' gingham dresses. Dorothy Cunliffe said her mother could not afford to buy her a blazer, so she has maybe a gaberdine on; but added a different belt for style. All nice white ankle socks though. As well as Liverpool Cathederal we took the 'Ferry across the Mersey' to Birkenhead and were allowed som free time there. We also went to see the Transporter Bridge (one of three in Britain - where cars drove onto a platform hanging from trolleys on a high steel bridge which ran on rails over the river carrying the cars to the other side clear of the ship canal below). This crossed the Mersey from Widnes to Runcorn [replaced in 1961 by the great arch of the Runcorn Bridge later called the Silver Jubilee Bridge]."
