| A DISAPPOINTMENT : Miss A Sharples report for 1952-1953 |
||||
| In presenting her report on the School Year,
at the School's Annual Prize Distribution at the Mechanics Institution
on Thursday September 24th 1953, the headmistress, Miss A
Sharples, declared that in the early stages of the year a decision
which was to shock and disappoint them had been forced upon them. The Ministry's decision to use "our proposed new school premisis" for other purposes had had its repercussions on the daily life of the school community. New equipment was to have been provided with the new school, and its present lack was seriously felt in the school work. Many shortages were borne cheerfully when it was known they were of limited duration - otherwise they were irksome and a great trial. Miss Sharples' report, however, showed excellent progress in educational, social and sporting activities. In conclusion Miss Sharples declared that the conditions of work in the school were very difficult and trying, but that the examination results and general standards of work achieved illustrated the devotion and unstilted service rendered by members of the staff. Many parents, she said, wanted to give their children better opportunities than they themselves had had. By sending them to the technical high school they would be achieving their objective. |
